We had a very interesting day, starting with two excellent presentations about Complexity Science (one about belief and one about cities), then an ‘intimate lunch’ (Carol gave everyone poignant conversation starters to discuss between themselves) with a couple of facilitation techniques (modified to fit the context) for the afternoon:
Speed networking: as per David Gurteen’s original process, but, as most people probably knew eachother and it was the middle of the day, we asked everyone to speak to those with whom they had not yet spoken, and to discuss the topics Carol suggested during the intimate lunch conversation topics. It was an excellent opener to a discursive afternoon.
Knowledge cafe: the groups had varied conversations about what they wanted from The Complexity Society, and what the future should be. I lurked in each conversation and was fascinated at how many angles of conversation there were. When the group came back together for the big conversation, there was no shortage of conversation. The Knowledge Cafe led directly into the society’s AGM, and I understand was a productive warm up to getting down to business at the AGM (so another minor hack on the K-cafe model).
Carol has put some photos online, and I’m going to quote from the first presentation in due course.
